Pia Micoli, Principal

Pia Micoli joined the PS 270: Dekalb School community as Principal in August of 2021, after seven years as the Assistant Principal of the Academy of Arts & Letters, a K-8 arts-intensive public school in District 13. As a member of that leadership team, she developed a rigorous project-based curriculum model, a data-based strategic reading intervention program, and schoolwide structures to support student voice in a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment.

Prior to her leadership experiences, she began her teaching career as a New York City Teaching Fellow and gained her classroom experience as a 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade teacher in both public and charter settings in Brooklyn. As a teacher and school leader, she has always been passionate about bringing a rich, culturally relevant curriculum to a diverse group of students to empower them to become leaders of their own learning, champions of social justice, and stewards of their local communities.

Pia received her BA in Religion and Political Science from the University of Rochester and a MA in Education from CUNY Brooklyn College. She is currently part of a district-charter partnership as a unifiED School Launch Fellow with the Diverse Charter School Coalition. Through a District 13 supported part-time residency with Prospect Schools, Pia is collaborating to redesign PS 270, a segregated district public school, into an intentionally integrated school through community engagement and diverse-by-design strategic planning.
